We are currently looking for an EHS Professional to support our North American Sales and Service operations. Working within a global EHS management system (ISO 14001 and 45001), the ideal candidate will drive Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) initiatives to cultivate safe and healthy minded, environmentally sustainable, compliant operations at our Service Operations and Training Center in Cary, NC. Additionally, this individual will lead efforts related to environmental product compliance and other management system elements.

Position Overview

Ensure compliance with regulatory standards as well as company guidelines in connection with an EHS Management system. Contribute to success of the company through lean EHS procedures and established practices. Coordinate EHS management activities and help with all relevant processes. Reporting directly to the North American EHS Manager with key taskings and direction from the North American Sales & Service EHS Officer, this role physically resides at the Siemens Healthineers Cary, NC Campus.

Primary Roles and Responsibilities

On-site Cary Campus EHS Lead:

  • Plan and implement campus programs to ensure the site meets and/or exceeds federal, state and internal Healthineers’ requirements for energy control, electrical safety, fall protection, chemical safety, ergonomics, RCRA waste management, HVAC refrigerant monitoring, SPCC, stormwater/wastewater, emergency preparedness, pandemic control, dangerous goods shipment and other EHS requirements.
  • Periodically assess EHS compliance. Work with Training Center Leadership to ensure training activities are conducted in a manner in which we provide a low-risk environment for employee/customer students, trainers, and other ancillary employees. Work closely with Facilities Management to ensure fire protection, life safety, and other EHS-related inspections are completed, and corrective actions taken, as needed. Monitor contractors on site for compliance with the Siemens Code of Conduct.
  • Manage the site’s enterprise EHS information management system for incident/near miss reporting, OSHA injury/illness recordkeeping, and internal/external reporting of environmental performance. Interface with HR/Supervisors, occupational medical clinics, and insurance agency as required to help manage workers compensation claims and reporting.
  • Track EHS metrics to monitor processes and identify trends. Evaluate EHS conditions, analyze performance, assess risks, and develop appropriate corrective-action / continuous improvement plans for the management system.
  • Assure all regulatory-required reports and submissions are accurate and filed on a timely basis.
  • Serve as point of contact for entire Cary Campus regarding EHS issues. Collaborate with individuals at various levels throughout the organization as well as customers, suppliers, and regulators in support of EHS excellence. Improve EHS knowledge by providing effective training and other communication methods.
  • Perform other EHS related tasks and duties as they arise, to help support the Cary, NC campus.

EHS Management System Support:

  • Maintain the compliance obligations register of US and Canada EHS external/internal requirements in support of ISO management system requirements. Identify, analyze, and track new EHS standards and regulations in the region through communications with internal Regulatory Affairs personnel, industry trade associations, and regulatory content subscription services. Continue to evolve the way compliance obligations are tracked and shared to facilitate business conformance to EHS requirements.
  • Plan and implement programs to ensure the company meets and/or exceeds Federal, State/Provincial and customer requirements for product-related environmental protection (PREP). Complete customer/regulatory requests for product declarations or attestations of environmental compliance. Support conformance to requirements for Marketing promotion and Sales restrictions.
  • As a member of the EHS functional organization, recommend and implement actions to minimize/eliminate workplace hazards and environmental impacts. Provide EHS technical support for new business projects. Contribute to the overall regional business strategy and global-level EHS initiatives to reduce overall EHS risks, implement program cost improvements, and achieve business sustainability objectives.

Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

In order to meet the above responsibilities, the following are required:

Skills/Knowledge:

  • A self-motivated individual with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and to prioritize tasks with input from line manager and EHS Officer.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills to succinctly and accurately convey the technical elements of regulatory and company programs to others inside of the organization.
  • A collaborative approach to problem solving that identifies and incorporates stakeholders in the development of solutions that facilitate compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
  • A high degree of ability to communicate using common office programs such as word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation programs

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an EHS-based discipline and/or a related field
  • Six to eight years of experience in applied EHS management in manufacturing, service or University setting with EHS Management System experience.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA and NC DEQ regulations
  • RCRA, IATA, and DOT Dangerous Goods certified
  • An advanced degree may be substituted for two years of experience

Preferred Knowledge/Skills and Experience

The following are preferred for a highly qualified candidate:

Skills/knowledge as above plus:

  • Experience with compliance auditing and/or gap analysis
  • Experience with workers compensation requirements for injuries/illnesses
  • Knowledge of federal and international environmental regulations for products (i.e, Prop65, IMERC, DOE/NRCan energy efficiency, RoHS, REACH, WEEE, Dangerous goods transport, etc.)
