What’s it all about?

The Regulatory Risk team protects Visa by managing supervisory relationships to deliver supervisory priorities, ensure appropriate risk governance oversight, and identify changes in regulatory environment on which to engage with management and regulators.  The Regulatory Risk team supports Visa’s growth by ensuring strategic initiatives consider regulatory requirements.

As the Regulatory Risk Director, you will be responsible for developing the supervisory engagement strategy for targeted European regulators. Once developed, you will lead the implementation and be responsible for maintaining the relationship with our supervisors at the European Central Bank (ECB), the Dutch National Bank (DNB) and the National Bank of Poland (NBP), as well as supporting relationship management with the Bank of England (BoE) (collectively European supervisory authorities).  The role holder will also be required to support the Government Engagement and Regulatory Legal and Compliance teams in their interactions with other European regulators.

This role holder will also engage with stakeholders internally to coordinate responses to regulatory requests and supervisory priorities and support the review of materials for relevant governance committees including the European Risk Committee and the Board Risk Committee.

What we expect of you, day to day:

  • Deliver the strategy for supervisory engagement, including providing a strategic view of regulatory developments and our internal target operating model / relationship management approach.
  • Ongoing management of relevant regulatory relationships and be a key point of contact for these supervisors, both proactively and reactively.
  • Advise and assist on regulatory and supervisory implications of organizational developments and changes, including facilitating or developing proactive communication to regulators.
  • Contribute to the proactive identification and evaluation of emerging regulatory trends, laws, and principles of practice in markets of operation, including monitoring and enforcement, and proactively coordinating other relevant stakeholders to ensure adherence with emerging regulatory obligations.
  • Develop briefing packs for C-suite executives and Visa Europe Board members to support their regular supervisory meetings with European supervisory authorities.
  • Building strong relationships to cross silos and work collaboratively to manage regulatory risks:
    • Across Risk Europe
    • With relevant Global Centers of Excellence
    • With Visa Country / Cluster Heads, Functions and programme management teams.
  • Where relevant, using management information, metrics, and analysis to inform decision-making and to measure progress against goals and desirable outcomes

What we’re after…

Knowledge & Experience

• Strong understanding of relevant regulatory environment and expectations and experienced in managing regulatory relationships, including with regulators in Europe.
• Ability to anticipate regulatory requirements and recommend processes and procedures to ensure Visa is prepared for and can meet evolving regulatory requirements.
• Proven ability in preparing/reviewing/delivering regulatory and executive communications, both written and oral
• Ability to analyse regulatory requests to assess potential points of feedback or issues that may emerge from the interaction, in addition to advising on our response approach
• Knowledge, understanding and experience of governance and risk management practices in financial services, including the payments industry.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office two days a week, Tuesdays and Wednesdays with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% of the time based on business needs.
