TFGH BACKGROUND:The Task Force for Global Health (TFGH) is a non-governmental organization affiliated with Emory University located in Decatur, GA. In 2016, TFGH received the Conrad N. Hilton Humanitarian Prize – the world’s largest award of its kind – in recognition of its contributions to alleviating human suffering.PROGRAM BACKGROUND:Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and hepatitis C (HCV) virus cause 1.3 million deaths per year and over two million new infections occur annually. However, to eliminate hepatitis, access to effective interventions must improve. In 2019, to help countries build effective programs and accelerate progress toward hepatitis elimination, The Task Force for Global Health launched the Coalition for Global Hepatitis Elimination (CGHE). CGHE, , builds capacity for hepatitis elimination globally through delivery of technical assistance, knowledge generation and dissemination, and advocacy among partners united in a community of practice.PROJECT:CGHE is looking for an intern to support efforts to update hepatitis elimination country dashboards and develop a set of national hepatitis elimination profiles for countries with the highest burden of HBV and HCV. The dashboards improve accessibility of epidemiological, policy, and program data related to HBV and HCV prevention, testing, and treatment for a global network of researchers, advocates, government partners, and additional collaborators. The national hepatitis elimination profiles are a unique advocacy resource that comprehensively assess the status of hepatitis elimination across countries using a standardized set of policy indicators. To develop these resources, CGHE works with Ministries of Health, the World Health Organization, the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation (IHME), and leading universities. Over the summer, additional data sources will be published that need to be added to the dashboards. In addition, new country profiles are slated to be developed alongside preparation of the first global report describing key policy trends observed from the profiles.ACTIVITIES AND OPPORTUNITIES:Under the supervision of the Deputy Director of CGHE, Mrs. Lindsey Hiebert, and the Associate Public Health Advisor, Ms. Jana Manning, the Intern will support the advancement of the initiatives described above.
