What you will do

Mako is the market leading Orthopedic Robotic platform, we invented SmartRobotics™ and now we need someone to lead us into the digital future. Competitive Insights

  • Evaluates the products, services and markets of multiple competitors.
  • Advises on the organization’s competitors for major product lines or services.
  • Able to interpret competitive analysis and incorporate into marketing strategy for FE.
  • Educates on the adoption of advanced technologies and tools for major competitors.
  • Anticipates and understands the different types of competition that will be faced in the future.
  • Monitors market activity, penetration and competitive wins or losses.
  • Develops, maintains, and leverages diverse networks for staying informed about competition.

Customer Insights

  • Identifies new customer groups and tailors marketing strategies to meet both current and prospective customer needs.
  • Creates strategy to identify and establish relationships with new KOLs to provide impactful feedback on business strategy.
  • Builds relationships with current KOLs.
  • Deploys resources to measure, monitor, and direct changes to enhance marketing strategy.

Market Research

  • Objectively listens and gleans relevant insights when conducting research and integrates them into marketing strategy.
  • Coaches others on the full spectrum of approaches and tools for conducting market research.
  • Works with Market Insights to design a market research plan to address a particular question. Understands how to measure and interpret unmet needs and importance. Creates formal market research processes according to organization’s requirements.
  • Analyzes unmet needs to identify product and service opportunities. Able to summarize qualitative and quantitative studies, drawing actionable conclusions for the business. Recommends strategies based on market research results.
  • Translates customer input into unmet needs. Evaluates key assumptions and variables that factor into the conclusions of market research.

Industry Insights

  • Identifies market trends and proactively adjusts strategy based on healthcare environment.
  • Explains the development of industry segments – trends, consequences, key issues.
  • Assesses how regulatory and reporting requirements apply to our organization.
  • Discusses industry-specific cycles and associated considerations.
  • Raises coworkers’ awareness of industry standards, practices and guidelines.
  • Compares and contrasts the latest developments and emerging issues in the industry.

Portfolio Development

  • Leads the NPDP process for Mako’s future Insightful Data Analytics solutions from start to finish, engaging key internal stakeholders (R&D, regulatory, finance, sales, operations) along the way.
  • Partners with the Digital, Robotics and Enabling technology group and collaborates cross-departmentally to lead the development of future digital insights and solutions for Mako SmartRobotics.
  • Utilizes KOL relationships to provide impactful feedback on current and future business strategy and gaps in current offering.
  • Influences the innovation and development of products in alignment with the brand positioning and customer need

Developing the Strategy & Marketing Plan

  • Guides others to deconstruct and extract the strategy from a well-written marketing plan.
  • Coaches others to spot weaknesses in plans and gives the necessary direction on where to improve.
  • Uses the marketing plan template to clearly articulate the FE (brand) strategy.
  • Communicates the marketing plan to key stakeholders to gain organizational agreement.

Evidence Generation

  • Evaluates sponsored trials, registries, economic analyses and investigator-initiated grants to derive a clinical evidence generation strategy.
  • Partners with clinical operations to develop a strong clinical evidence generation strategy and key claims.

Marketing Objective

  • Can calculate Customer Lifetime Value for a specific customer type.
  • Understands loyalty composition of the customer base.
  • Guides teams in the creation of goal trees, considering overall company goals in the context of the strategic plan and market dynamics.
  • Mentors others on how to connect FE / business goals brand vision and strategy.
  • Guides teams in allocating resources to change the loyalty mix of the brand
  • Coaches teams to reallocate marketing resources appropriately given stakeholder power dynamics.
  • Anticipates market dynamics that may impact acquisition and retention objectives and makes proactive recommendations to business leaders.
  • Guides teams in linking the marketing budget to customer acquisition and retention objectives.
  • Understands market dynamics that may impact Marketing Objectives in the future and makes proactive recommendations to marketing strategy anticipating future market.

Source Volume & Strategic Focus

  • Recommends a category definition based on the strategic phase of the business.
  • Guides teams through a category definition exercise, challenging conventional thinking as appropriate.
  • Guides teams in the allocation of resources between stimulating demand vs. earning competitive share to maximize financial results for the FE.
  • Continually monitors market trends and mentors’ others on sources of volume and strategic focus.
  • Guides teams through strategic focus / four quadrant opportunity analysis, including investment tradeoffs and competitive and market implications.
  • Defines opportunity and estimates effort to target each of the four customer groups: nonusers, exclusive users, competitive users, multi-brand users.
  • Continually monitors and evaluates current market strategy and makes recommendations on new source of volume strategies.

Pricing

  • Establishes mechanisms for communicating with and influencing product developers.
  • Able to perform the economic value analysis to identify key drivers to establish pricing strategy, including contract pricing.
  • Manages price competition for the FE and assures alignment with overall business unit pricing goals. P-L drivers
  • Designs alternative approaches for determining revenue and profit potential given different pricing approaches.

Marketing Channel

  • Outlines and recommends a channel approach that is consistent with the Marketing Strategy and brand positioning.
  • Consults on the benefits, risks and considerations for multiple marketing channels.
  • Monitors effectiveness of all marketing channels and promotional campaigns.
  • Oversees market fluctuations and the market share of own organization’s products and services.

Business Analytics

  • Teaches others the analytical concepts and techniques used and their application to business decisions.
  • Develops key criteria for evaluating business performance.
  • Advises others on the relationship between financial, performance and operational data used in business analytics.
  • Participates in establishing company and industry best practices for business performance analysis.

Other

  • Mentors, develops and influences across the business, intentionally building cross-divisional relationships.
  • Demonstrates financial acumen.
  • Develops key relationships with industry/market thought leaders, organizations, and institutions, in collaboration with other marketing leaders.
  • Able to routinely make decisions which may affect immediate operations and have a company-wide impact.

What you need

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or related discipline required
  • MBA preferred
  • 8+ years of work experience required
  • 5+ years medical device or marketing/sales experience preferred
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while delivering on established timelines
  • Ability to be persuasive in the absence of organizational authority
  • Must be able to understand and work within complex interdivisional procedures and policies
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word & PowerPoint)

$107,300- $228,200salary plus bonus eligible + Benefits (Health, Vision, Dental, 401K, Tuition Reimbursement, Employee Assistance Program, Wellbeing Program, Employee Stock Purchase Program). This information reflects the anticipated salary range for this position based on current national data. Actual minimum and maximum may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience, and other relevant factors.
