MARY CATHOLIC PARISHJob Status: Part time (up to 19 hours per week)Reports to: PastorSUMMARYAs a member of the parish staff, and guided by Unleash the Gospel, the Coordinator of Evangelical Charity works with other staff members to foster and maintain a team environment where worship, prayer, hospitality and learning are the primary motivators. Evangelical Charity at St. Mary is rooted in love of God and service to our neighbor. The Coordinator of Evangelical Charity is a professional leader who works to advance the vision of Catholic Social Teaching in the parish, school and the local community, by witnessing with words and actions to the power of God through the spiritual and corporal works of mercy. The Coordinator of Evangelical Charity has oversight responsibility for all areas of Evangelical Charity at St. Mary Catholic Church.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND TASKS REQUIRED BY THIS JOB:· Recruit, train, lead and coordinate volunteers to work in multiple Evangelical Charity ministries of the parish· Operate a Clothing Closet and Food Pantry serving the homeless and others in need· Oversee volunteers who assist the homeless and others who come to the office Monday-Thursday during open hours· Receive calls for emergency financial help to pay rent, utilities, etc. Assess the need and working with the parish staff to discern how to help the individual in need· Coordinate / project manage the annual Christmas and Easter Giving Tree, Mercy in Action Day, Blood Drives, Warming Shelter, Jail and other community outreach events· Prepare and manage annual Evangelical Charity budget· Lead and work with the parish Evangelical Charity (EC) commission members to plan scheduled and future events and communicate to the parish and community at large· Develop and implement parish social ministry programs to address needs not met by parish or community programs in concert with community service providers such as Focus Hope, Catholic Charities, Jail Outreach Ministry, Detroit Rescue Mission, and other Mission Partner organizations.· Provide training for volunteers in Evangelical Charity / social ministry activities being mindful to develop new EC ministry leadership among the lay people of the parish· Attends and participates in monthly staff meetings as well as work with parish and school staff on applicable joint projects as neededREQUIREMENTS:· Christian Service Certification or willing to begin and complete a formation plan with the Archdiocesan office of Ministerial Certification within 12 months· Minimally a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Theology or Pastoral Ministry· Experience working or volunteering in social ministry with the vulnerable and people living in poverty· Current completion of Safe Environment Training (Protecting God’s Children) and a current background check· Some evening and weekends work hours for scheduled eventsPlease send resume to Linda Maccarone, Mission Support Director at lmaccarone@st-mary.org.
