The Team:

The Licensing Approvals Associate is responsible for handling all aspects of the product approvals process. The Licensing Associate must ensure that Mattel standards are met for each licensed project while maintaining excellent relationships and meeting the contractual obligations of each partner.

Job Description

What Your Impact Will Be: 

  • Obtain necessary approvals on product, packaging, and marketing materials promptly to ensure schedule adherence.
  • Proactively initiate approvals process by working with the product development team to determine sufficient lead-time for meeting milestones.
  • Attend team meetings and communicate the status of approvals to all team members.
  • Pre-approve legal text, including proper usage of trademarks, registration and copyright marks.
  • Work with Sr. Approvals Associate and Manager to negotiate with licensors when disputes occur, to the satisfaction of both Mattel and licensor. Write proposals and justifications to ensure approval is secured to the satisfaction of all parties.
  • Provide clear communication to the team to ensure licensor requirements are met.
  • Ensure that follow-up submissions happen in a timely manner.
  • Document each approvals milestone.
  • Facilitate requests for photographs, style guides, reference material, or technical information.
  • Communicate contractual samples requirements to manufacturing plants, follow up on sample ship dates, and regularly update the tracking log.
  • Identify when needs of licensor and/or Mattel are at risk and work with Manager to resolve quickly.
  • Interface with the cross-functional team regularly to ensure a complete understanding of product lines.
  • Act as corporate liaison between appropriate Mattel departments and Licensors.
  • Projects and reports as necessary 


What We’re Looking For: 


  • 2+ years of licensing or product development experience in a brand management or licensing environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Outstanding organization and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of work while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Some knowledge of product development
  • Able to multi-task, work independently, and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills who can work effectively with people at all levels.
  • Must be a self-starter with a proactive approach to work.
  • Experience with Office 365 and Adobe Creative Cloud, primarily Adobe Acrobat
