MercyAscot is New Zealand’s largest private surgical facility with 22 theatres across 3 sites. Our Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD) is responsible for the decontamination, assembly, sterilisation, and packaging of all equipment used within our operating suites. We’re the backbone of our theatres’ operation and with the ever-increasing number of daily operations, Sterilising Unit Technicians are in demand.

As a Sterilising Unit Technician or Trainee at MercyAscot you will join a hard-working team of more than 30 professionals. This position will suit someone who enjoys a physical work environment and dealing with a large number of surgical instruments within a busy operating suite. This is a permanent position (0.8 – 1.0 FTE) with variable 8 hours shifts between 0630-0000 hours, across Monday to Friday and occasional weekends. And our CSSD will soon be relocating to our brand new purpose-built facility in Parnell.

Your main duties will include:

  • Clean and sterilise reusable medical devices and surgical instruments
  • Assemble, check and package reusable medical devices and power tools
  • Ensure continuous and sufficient supply of sterile items to the operating rooms
  • Maintain infection control principles and standard precautions
  • Assist with managing incoming/outgoing loan instruments and implants

As the successful candidate you will have:

  • NZSSA Membership including Level 4 Sterilising Certificate or, as a Trainee, be willing to enrol in the NZ Sterilising Certificate course
  • Relevant experience in surgical / healthcare environment would be an advantage
  • Aptitude for handling mechanical equipment
  • Good physical fitness and agility
  • Clear and confident communication skills
  • Previous experience in equipment loans or a customer services role
