Position Summary:

The Manager, Clinical Operations Lead, Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Clinical Trials (DEICT) – Immunology will lead the activities to identify and develop process changes required that will enable an increased participation of under-represented populations in Janssen Immunology clinical trials. You will be part of a passionate team that strives to change internal culture and behaviors to strengthen our understanding of disease disparities, the effects on diverse populations and the importance of inclusion in clinical trials.
Principal Responsibilities:

  • Services rendered will adhere to applicable Johnson & Johnson SOPs, WIs, policies, local regulatory requirements, ICH-GCP, etc.
  • Support the Director, DEICT – Immunology in the development and execution of Immunology Diversity and Inclusion in Clinical Trials strategies and corresponding core DEICT processes and, best practice and action planning.
  • Partner with the Director, DEICT – Immunology to identify and develop process improvements aligned to Clinical Trial Lifecycle to increase recruitment, enrollment, and retention of clinical trial participants from diverse backgrounds.
  • Serve as the expert on diversity recruitment, retention and community engagement practices and support study teams in implementation of these practices. Share and communicate DEICT best practices, processes, and strategies with Immunology therapeutic area teams.
  • Function as a dedicated DEICT subject-matter expert and partner to Immunology study teams to support the development and implementation of study Diversity Plans aligned with FDA/Local Health Authority guidance. Identify and propose new and existing solutions, ensure that the DEICT specific tactics are included in study Diversity Plans.
  • Collaborate with Global and Local Clinical Operations, Feasibility, Investigator and Patient Engagement, Data Sciences, Clinical and other key members of the Immunology Compound Development Team and Cross-Functional Trial Team to support study diversity assessment and diversity plan development.
  • Create, update, and deliver DEICT related trainings to key Local and Global Clinical Operations stakeholders including but not limited Local Trial Managers, Site Managers, and Clinical Trial Managers.
  • Maintain DEICT metrics tracking and support socialization of the DEICT dashboard across study teams to track progress of diversity plan implementation.
  • Support Clinical Team leadership (e.g., Study Responsible Physician, Study Responsible Scientist) for early assessment of disease area to support confirmation of diversity plan patient accrual goals depending on disparities, disease state, etc.
  • In partnership with the Director, DEICT Immunology – lead and facilitate internal engagement activities to promote a deeper understanding of and commitment to DEICT within the organization.
  • In partnership with the Director, DEICT Immunology, lead external engagement activities and provide input to external communication strategies, leveraging existing relationships and evaluate new opportunities to collaborate with patient advocacy organizations, community groups, key opinion leaders and current or future investigator sites.
  • In partnership with the Director, DEICT Immunology, create content and deliver presentations to external audiences to broaden base knowledge about clinical research in underrepresented, underserved, or marginalized communities and the importance of partnerships with investigators from diverse backgrounds, aligned with the Research Include MeTM platform.
  • Support benchmarking within DEICT and across Janssen Research and Development to identify best practices, and facilitate best practices sharing across internal functions, Immunology therapeutic area teams and external partners.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • University/college degree in a scientific or business discipline is required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive pharmaceutical industry or healthcare experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of clinical research principles and regulations.
  • Strong understanding and experience in creating new or improved patient recruitment, enrollment, retention experiences and investigator site study team partnerships
  • Experience of successfully working a heavily matrixed organization. Able to lead and influence without direct authority.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity. Deals well with shaping direction in a new area with limited guidance. Challenges status quo. Understands and where needed adapts to different cultures and markets.
  • Thinks in a structured way – Is able to set priorities across a multitude of opportunities based on business analysis and customer research, and to craft a structured approach to drive execution.
  • Strong analytical skills and solid business acumen. Excellent communication and presentation skills required. Connects easily and broadly across the organization and across countries. Effective in working in a virtual global organization.
  • Experience in Immunology clinical development and/or medical affairs is a plus.
  • Immunology therapeutic area and clinical trial management and/or patient engagement and patient recruitment experience is required (e.g., gained from roles in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Clinical Trials or roles such as Patient Recruitment Manager/Coordinator, Clinical Trial Manager, Local Trial Manager, Clinical Operations Lead, Study Coordinator, Patient Engagement Manager/Coordinator)
  • Travel as needed to conferences.

The anticipated base pay range for this position is $106,500 – $160,000.

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan. The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/ performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
