SEC Reporting Analyst

Responsibilities
The SEC Reporting Analyst in our Scottsdale, Arizona Headquarters, will report to the Director of SEC Reporting and assist with external financial reporting in accordance with US GAAP and SEC regulations. The position will support the preparation of SEC filings and related financial materials. The position will also assist in equity plan administration and equity compensation reporting.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITES OVERVIEW:
- SEC Filings. Assist with compiling internal information for preparation of SEC filings (10Q, 10K, 8K, Form 4, Quarterly Earnings Releases, Proxy).
- XBRL Tagging and Reporting. In conjunction with 10Q and 10K filings, review of current XBRL tags in use and research new tags to meet SEC reporting requirements.
- External audit requests. Assist with external audit requests and document preparation for quarterly financial statement audits.
- Stock Plan Administrator. Assist with administration of our company stock plan and preparation of equity expense reporting calculations.
- 1-2 Year Warranty. Preparation of a quarterly analysis of the company wide warranty reserves for homes closed.
- AD-HOC Reporting. Assist with reports and requests from senior management on an ongoing basis.
- Consolidated A/R and Accrued Liabilities schedules. Preparation of monthly consolidated Accounts Receivable and Accrued Liabilities. Analyze fluctuations and follow up with division personnel as needed.
- Insurance entity. Prepare monthly commissions journal entries for wholly owned insurance broker.
- Charitable Foundation. Oversee monthly bank reconciliations and monitor cash balances for Meritage Cares Foundation
- Joint Ventures. Prepare monthly joint venture reconciliations and consolidated rollforward
Qualifications
Education:
- Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Experience:
- CPA eligible (active license preferred)
- 2-3 years of total finance and accounting experience including strong knowledge of US GAAP principals and SEC reporting standards
- Public accounting experience (Big 4 preferred)
- SEC reporting experience, prior XBRL experience, and excellent technical accounting skills strongly preferred
- Experience in working on the completion of quarterly reviews and annual audit process
Technical Skills:
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
