Are you ready to get in on the ground floor of Project Kuiper, Amazon’s long-term initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world? It’s Day 1 for Amazon’s next billion dollar business and we are looking for an entrepreneurial minded Senior Accounting Manager to work in a start-up environment who is passionate about space, technology and bringing high, speed low latency internet to the world.
The successful candidate will have a strong background working through complex government contractual arrangements and have a demonstrated ability to think broadly and strategically about global initiatives and the impact to accounting. This role requires a self-starter, a keen attention to detail and ability to work in a fast-paced ambiguous environment. This position will have the responsibility for leading all parts of the accounting and reporting of all Project Kuiper government contracts and related costing activities, ensuring compliance with government accounting regulations including Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
Key job responsibilities
• Lead the overall strategic direction and operation of the Project Kuiper Government Accounting team including process and system design and hiring/onboarding a supporting Team
• Develop and maintain processes, controls and financial system infrastructure to ensure compliance with US GAAP and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS)
• Experience developing and maintaining labor, material and overhead rates in accordance with CAS
• Develop and oversee procedures and controls in accordance with SOX requirements, Federal Acquisition Regulation, Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement and Amazon Accounting Policies
• Manage contract and project-based financials in the ERP
• Lead the development, execution and audit of key financial controls
• Perform contract and amendment reviews to ensure appropriate revenue recognition according to GAAP and ASC 606
• Drive a continuous improvement mindset into the month end close cycle inclusive of external filings and consolidation with Kuiper/Amazon books
• Coordinating with Tax, Treasury, Trade, Internal Audit, Contract Management and other Kuiper/Amazon Finance Teams to develop US GAAP compliant financials
We are currently looking for candidates who are at the senior manager or director levels. Many of our candidates for this position will also have held similar Controllership positions in large public companies, USG contractors or with a Big 4 public accounting firm.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
• 12+ years of finance experience or a related analytical field.
• 12+ years of financial experience, SEC reporting, government accounting and/or A&D industry accounting experience
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA), with strong working knowledge of U.S. GAAP and SOX requirements
• Strong familiarity with CAS
• Experience managing project-based financials from a revenue recognition and cost assurance perspective in a government contracting environment
• Experience with documenting accounting conclusions and related support
• Strong controls and compliance experience
• Comfortable working with financial concepts & systems (financial system implementations)
• Ability to work effectively across multiple groups managing tight deadlines
• Export Control Requirement: Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
• Direct experience supporting audits with the USG or operating in an organization subject to the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS) regulatory environments
• Experience in global telecom or related industry
• Experience working in a global direct and indirect supply chain organization
• Expert level understanding of an internal control framework (specifically COSO) to assess control design and operational efficiency and teach these concepts to more junior team members.
• Familiarity with GAAP research tools and the FASB codification
• Operational accounting experience with one or more Fortune 500 companies
• Experience working in a fast paced environment similar to a high tech start-up
• A demonstrated history of solving multiple and complex operational and accounting challenges
• Aptitude for leading teams; influencing and galvanizing others to follow you toward a solution
• Strong interpersonal written and oral communication skills
• Solid organizational skills along with an aptitude for information technology
• Excellent analytical skills
