This position is responsible for providing financial support to the distribution teams of both the Retirement and Protection Divisions of Protective Life. The primary responsibilities include providing support for the marketing allowance program as well as the sales incentive bonus payments.  Other responsibilities include assisting with the annual budget process, quarterly expense forecasts, monthly expense/budget analysis, and general technical support for the Sales & Marketing team. 
 
The position is expected to provide quality financial and technical support using available tools, including SAP general ledger, Microsoft Excel, Anaplan, and Sales DataMart.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting the marketing allowance program as well as the Sales Incentive Plan (SIP) bonus payments.
  • Perform monthly and quarterly calculations
  • Prepare accruals and reconciliations
  • Prepare payment requests
  • Assist with analysis
  • Assist with contract review
  • Work with IT to update reporting as needed
  •  Perform monthly accounting duties.
  • Prepare monthly expense accruals, reclasses, and miscellaneous journal entries
  • Reconcile balance sheet accounts
  • Prepare monthly budget vs. actual expense variance reports
  • Assist with wholesaler expense reporting
  • Prepare general ledger analysis, queries, pivots and related needs
  • Assist with budget process and variance analysis for the Sales and Marketing teams.
  • Assist with budget & expense forecasts during the year
  • Provide support to Sales and Marketing teams (technical support with Anaplan   system and other assistance as needed)
  • Other accounting and financial job duties as assigned

Education/Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field
  • One to two years of applicable accounting experience
  • This position requires a strong knowledge of excel as well as a basic knowledge of general ledgers and GAAP accounting.
  • Some experience with sales reporting, budgets and monthly expense analysis is a plus. 
  • This position requires solid accounting, analytical, and technical abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills are needed as there will be regular interaction with the Sales & Marketing managers, sales team, outside firms, as well as with IT, Finance, and various other areas within the company.
  • The candidate must also enjoy working in a small office atmosphere.
