Audit Finance & Accounting Engagement Manager

in our Global Investment and Financial Audit Services team in Malvern, PA. You will have the opportunity to manage internal audits and advisory projects related to Vanguard’s corporate finance, strategic services, and accounting groups, which are collectively responsible for safeguarding corporate assets and providing a full range of financial services to all Vanguard divisions. Your work will provide you with a broad view of Vanguard and its business model, while allowing you to share valuable insights with Vanguard’s key stakeholders, including the Board of Directors, management, and crew.

Your conceptual thinking, intellectual curiosity, and analytical skills will be critical in this role. You will have the opportunity to work both independently and within cross-functional teams to assess key risks to the organization, while drafting and delivering clear communications to various levels of management based on the results of your work.

As a member of our hard-working, highly motivated, and engaged team who consistently delivers high-quality work in a dynamic team environment, your role would include:

  • Managing the engagement team and delivery of the overall audit and advisory engagements.
  • Leveraging the audit team’s skillsets and experiences to drive collaboration to ensure work is completed accurately and timely. Communicating expectations to the team and providing meaningful, timely feedback to develop team members.
  • Assisting in developing and communicating the objectives of an engagement to the audit team, department management, and business clients. Effectively outlining engagement scope and determining level of associated risk.
  • Assessing the adequacy of the control environment, identifying control gaps and opportunities for continuous improvement based on relevant knowledge and experience. Challenging established processes and controls to ensure they are adequate to mitigate risk and analyzing data to determine underlying root causes when risk exposures are identified. Performing work and analysis on complex areas. Ensuring timely delivery of the highest quality work and value-add recommendations.
  • Effectively communicating the status and results of assigned work to various levels of management. Influencing senior management (department heads and officers) to act on recommendations to strengthen the control environment and make process improvements.
  • Providing an opinion on audit and advisory findings, ratings, and recommendations to senior management.
  • Establishing and maintaining relationships with business management across aligned division and risk partners (including legal, compliance, information security, fraud).
  • Participating, and at times leading, department and team projects to effectively deliver on operational and strategic goals of the department.


  • Undergraduate degree in a business related field of concentration or equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional certification or advanced degree (e.g., MBA, CPA, CIA, CFA) is a plus.
  • Minimum of five years general business experience (with two to four years of project management related experience). Experience with audit, risk or controls (i.e. operational audits, financial statement audits, internal audits, advisory/consulting, controls/compliance/legal) preferred.
  • Strong conceptual thinking aptitude.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a complex, dynamic, and fast-paced environment with strong inherent project execution skills, including: prioritizing tasks, balancing workload between multiple projects, anticipating next steps, adapting to changing situations and project scope.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including: written and verbal communications, willingness to assist in areas outside of direct assignments when completion of team objectives. necessary, and commitment to self-improvement and
  • Experience in situations requiring diplomacy. Strong negotiation skills.
  • Strong relationship skills and client focused mindset.
  • Experience in the financial services industry is not required; however, knowledge of accounting and reporting preferred (including familiarity with journal entries, general ledger, trial balance)

Future of Work

During the pandemic, we transitioned to a work from home model for the majority of our crew and we continue to interview, hire, and on-board future crew remotely.

When our Crew return to the office, many will work in our hybrid model. A smaller proportion of our crew will operate in the Work from Home work model (for example, field sales crew); or in the Work from Office model (for example, portfolio managers).
