BRIEF POSITION SUMMARY :

The Technology Senior Financial Analyst is responsible for developing and delivering clear business and financial metrics that enable management visibility into the effectiveness and impact of CarMax’s use of Technology. The position plays a key role in driving the budget process and continuously tracking and forecasting throughout the year to make actionable financial optimization recommendations.

The position works closely with the Technology senior management team, along with CarMax corporate finance to ensure we’re aligned with the operational and strategic goals of the company. The position is also involved in bench marking IT metrics and implementing best practices of accounting and finance.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze various components of spend vs budget and provide insights to Technology leaders in support of achieving short and long term goals.
  • Develop financial models for tracking new initiatives and support continuous improvement to existing reporting and processes.
  • Play a key role in the annual budget process for Technology including analysis of year over year trends.
  • Provide analytical support related to headcount monitoring, contingent workforce population, and vendor spend to create efficiencies and cost savings opportunities.
  • Identify risks and opportunities for the business and develop actionable recommendations.
  • Evaluate new investments through cost/benefit analysis and ensure appropriate financial governance of existing investments.
  • Partner cross-functionally with a variety of departments including FP&A, Accounting, and Product.
  • Support month-end close processes such as accrual preparation, variance explanations, and other accounting functions, as necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships and work collaboratively
  • Exceptional analytical and critical thinking skills including the ability to draw insights from large, complicated data sets
  • Experience building complex financial models with a high attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication including the ability the communicate effectively with all levels of management within and outside of Technology
  • Ability to influence others and implement change at various levels
  • Ability to work independently, deliver on objectives, and meet deadlines
  • High degree of customer service and professionalism
  • Desire to learn, problem solve, and create efficiencies

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or similar field, preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in finance, business analytics, budgeting, or similar field
  • Excellent analytical, problem solving, and financial modeling skills
  • Excellent communication, partnering, presentation, and influencing skills
  • Advanced Excel and strong PowerPoint skills, required
  • Basic understanding of technology concepts, preferred
  • Apptio experience, preferred
