Job summary
The AWS Identity team’s mission is to build, operate, and innovate the identity, authentication, and authorization stack for the AWS Cloud. As part of that mission, AWS Zelkova uses automated reasoning tools to reason about Identity and Access Management (IAM) policies for customers, which enables them to set the right access controls confidently across their AWS environments.

We develop our products in small teams using modern development methods and technologies. We strive to create high-quality, scalable, and usable products. Our standard workflows consist of automated testing, peer reviews, and continuous deployment.

We are seeking a software developer engineer to build products that combine automated reasoning and technology to deliver solutions to all AWS customers. You will work with a team to build solutions on a global scale, own your systems end to end, and influence the direction of technology used by all AWS customers around the world. In this role, you can expect to contribute to and design components for flexible and scalable solutions, deliver customer facing functionality, and lead projects using data analysis techniques. You will have the opportunity to drive mission-critical projects and collaborate with senior leaders and partner teams to deliver impactful changes to AWS. You will work closely with othersfrom mentoring junior developers to collaborating with senior and principal engineersto raise the quality bar for your team’s software development practices.

You should be interested in delivering high-performance, reliable systems in a distributed environment, building and using large data collections and machine learning to deliver the next generation permission experience for all AWS customers. You also should be a strong technical contributor who understands the big-picture, operational aspects and architecture of our code. Your responsibilities will include building the architecture, design, and implementation of complex components with great quality. You should enjoy working in a customer-oriented environment, and diving deep in logs and metrics to unearth improvements and problems. Last, you should be passionate about software development and have a track record of collaboratively designing, implementing, and launching new products or features.

Key job responsibilities

  • Own the architecture, design, and code for AWS resource discovery services
  • Use latest native-AWS technology, low-latency techniques and best engineering practices to build extra-large scale, highly available search and discovery services
  • Own and continuously improve all operational metrics and automation tools for your team’s software
  • Execute against project plans and delivery commitments
  • Coach and mentor junior engineers

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 1+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

* A Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Science or a similar degree
Experience owning mission critical, 24×7 systems
A strong understanding of either Java, Go, Scala, or a comparable programming language
Experience with automated reasoning technologies such as SAT or SMT solvers is a huge plus
Interest in or experience developing production web services or service-oriented architectures

The base pay range for this position in New York City 120k-175k+ yearly; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
