Are you excited about building high-performance vision systems that can perceive, track, and automate the movement of goods through fulfillment? The Robotics Advanced Technology team is creating new products and technologies that make this possible, at Amazon scale.

Key job responsibilities
The Robotics Advanced Technology team is seeking creative and curious engineers who have a passion to develop and deploy state-of-the-art perception systems for automation of fulfillment. We build devices and software that give greater visibility into the flow of goods, that visually inspect and analyze a scene, and that identify defects. Our solutions are used to track items in motion, to verify authenticity and accuracy of items shipped, and to inform robotic manipulation systems.

Software developers are needed to collaborate on a range of challenges. For example, backend software connects edge devices to warehouse systems to ensure the correct flow of goods. Embedded software drives our vision devices to ensure precise timing and control of cameras and illumination. Computer Vision and Machine Learning are deployed to solve specific perception needs, such as classification of objects as either singles or multis.

As an SDE you will collaborate with the team and own various subsystems, depending on your ability to handle ambiguity, scope, and complexity. The team develops proof of concepts but always with an eye toward large-scale deployments. We put a high priority on performance, system up-time, manageability, and scalability.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• 4+ years of professional software development experience
• 3+ years of programming experience with at least one software programming language
• 2+ years of experience contributing to the system design or architecture (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
• Experience as a mentor, tech lead OR leading an engineering team

• Proficiency with professional software engineering practices & standard practices for the full software life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience leading the development of software subsystems.
• Solid fundamentals in delivering reliable software that is tested, documented, and maintainable.
• Experience mentoring other engineers.
• Familiarity with the following: AWS cloud services, robotics, web technologies.
• Experience in one or more relevant technical areas: robotics, computer vision, machine learning, sensors, real-time systems, embedded systems, distributed systems, simulation, high-performance scientific computing, or building infrastructure for engineering/science users.
