Job summary
The AWS Graviton Software team is looking for performance engineering focused Sr Software Engineers to drive the optimization of open source and internal applications. The AWS Annapurna Labs designed Graviton as a strategic initiative to improve how software works at Amazon scale. Graviton is Arm-based CPU that delivers better performance, lower price and lower carbon footprint over comparable x86-based instances. Amazon teams like RDS, ElastiCache, and EMR depend on Graviton’s unique features, high performance and lower overall cost to deliver products their customers love.

We benchmark and optimize internal and open source software. We diagnose and fix operations issues to make sure we have available Graviton instances for customers. As a software engineer in the team, you will have the opportunity to lead the innovation and deliver software that powers the world largest cloud provider.

As a Performance Sr Software Engineer, You will work on Linux/opensource library optimizations, troubleshooting the performance bottlenecks and enabling external AWS customers and various internal AWS services like AWS Lambda, Elastic Map Reduce, ElastiCache, and RDS deployment on Graviton. You will also work on contributing the open source changes back to the community. You will play an instrumental role in driving the AWS roadmap to deliver cost-effective and performant computing systems. In this role you will use and further develop your deep knowledge in areas including design, implementation, and data analysis. You will have the opportunity to understand and improve how AWS delivers on one of the most important shifts at the core of the data center: our migration to Arm applications.

About the team
The team ports, optimizes, and develops software to drive down the cost of adoption and operation for the AWS Graviton instances. The goal is to help internal services and external customers to migrate to Graviton, achieving the expected 40% price/performance improvement. We do this by improving software, creating open source tools to enable self serve migration, and maintaining publicly available documentation for developers, for example: https://github.com/aws/aws-graviton-getting-started
