DESCRIPTION

Job summary
We are seeking a Senior Business Analyst for a new project that is fundamental to Amazon’s future. We will tackle some of the world’s most intriguing problems involving software architecture design, customer experience, and business strategy.

A key component of the role will be to develop various input and output metrics we will use to evaluate our progress, which will serve as the backbone of our WBR/MBR reporting process. This role will also leverage strong data extraction skills to develop reporting deliverables, create ad hoc analyses on business results and sales performance, provide insights used to help business planning, and implement ideas for process improvement. You must have the ability to communicate effectively across multiple technical and non-technical business units, and have a passion about driving sales growth. Successful members of this team collaborate effectively to solve data problems, implement new solutions, and deliver results rapidly against high operational standards. The ideal candidate will have the ability to interpret data in a way that distills the insights and helps understand “the what” and the “the why”, and be comfortable operating in a dynamic and fluid environment.

The ideal candidate earns trust through performance and relationship building, thinks strategically, acts tactically, writes effectively, and displays strong analytical capabilities coupled with critical thinking skills. The candidate will be a self-starter with a passion for identifying issues, providing structure around ambiguity, simplifying where there’s complexity, and the ability to anticipate business needs, make trade-offs, and balance business dynamics despite constraints.

Key job responsibilities
• Generate insightful analysis, reporting, and data visualizations to answer critical business questions, proactively identify notable trends, and communicate business performance
• Translate data into actionable insights for stakeholders while proactively identifying new areas of opportunity to drive further improvements
• Apply expertise in data mining and modeling leveraging multiple data sources to uncover unique insights, identify key performance drivers, and build predictive models
• Work backwards from your end-customer to define, design, and execute each work item with an emphasis on improved metrics, productivity, and efficiency
• Prepare concise, compelling written communications to present findings and recommendations to internal partners and document methods for transparency and continuity
• Collaborate with central data team to leverage vast data sets, analytic tools, and other resources to advance the quality and timeliness of analysis
• Partner with central data team in defining data source and schema requirements in the central data team data warehouse to support Sales insight and analytics requirements.
• Participate as a key team member in creating and scaling analytics program from the ground up to provide insights and recommendations to support our team’s strategic goals

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, etc.
• 5+ years of professional experience in business intelligence, data analytics, data science, or similar field
• Demonstrated analytical skills to work through complex problems, manipulate and analyze large data sets, and produce actionable business insights
• Proficiency in extracting and manipulating data using SQL, with a strong focus on data integrity and accuracy
• Proficiency in data visualization using applications such as QuickSight, Tableau, Power BI, or QlikView/QlikSense
• Proficiency in Excel for ad hoc data analysis, modeling and visualization
• Proficiency in foundational regression methods (e.g., linear, logistic, basic time series); ability to identify opportunities for more advanced modeling methods
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills to translate ambiguous business questions into robust analysis and communicate results to business and finance stakeholders
• Self-starter with ability to prioritize and execute work with minimal direction or supervision

• Master’s degree or higher in Engineering, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
• 7+ years of work experience of analyzing and interpreting data as a business analyst, business intelligence professional, or similar capacity
• Demonstrated ability to think strategically about business problems and opportunities
• Familiarity with AWS solutions such as EC2, DynamoDB, S3, and Redshift
• Knowledge of scripting for automation (e.g. Python, Perl, Ruby)
