Come join the Amazon S3 Edge Team in our mission to build a scalable and highly durable object storage for the next generation hybrid computing platform. Amazon S3 Edge provides hybrid object storage enabling customers to store and retrieve data on-premises using the S3 programming model and features. Our team is responsible for delivering this hybrid storage service on multiple AWS edge platforms. As part of the team, you will be responsible for design, implementation, and support of S3 products for customers who are building applications that require data to be stored on the edge for performance or data residency use cases.

We are looking for engineers to solve challenging problems, and help expand the service. As a Software Development Engineer in the team, you will be a key contributor to building S3 products for Hybrid Cloud customers. You will have the opportunity to work on distributed computing problems, architect, and design S3 features for customers and enhance customer experience through operational excellence. You will be joining an experienced team of engineers that architects and builds solutions at AWS scale. We’re looking for a new teammate who is enthusiastic, empathetic, curious, motivated, reliable, and able to collaborate effectively with a diverse team of peers.

Key job responsibilities
As a software developer, you will have the opportunity to deliver high quality features that will be deployed at AWS scale. Responsibilities include:

Design, implementation, deployment and maintenance of innovative software solutions to deliver new features in performance, cost, reliability.
Use software engineering best practices to ensure the standard of quality of all team deliverables.
Build and implement high quality distributed system software.
Work in an agile development environment prioritizing most important and impactful projects.

We are working on some of the most complex, distributed storage features that addresses the needs of our hybrid customers by bringing the scalability, reliability, and availability of the cloud to the edge.

On-Call Responsibility
This position involves on-call responsibilities, typically for one week in every six to eight weeks. We don’t like getting paged in the middle of the night or on the weekend, so we work to ensure that our products are exceeding customer expectations. When we do get paged, we work together to resolve the issue and ensure that root cause is addressed systemically.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Programming experience with at least one software programming language.
  • 1+ years of experience in software development
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Basics – Strong knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and designing for performance, scalability, availability, and storage fundamentals
  • Breadth – Substantial experience across multiple products built on secure, reliable, scalable systems that saw significant traffic
  • Depth – You can go up and down the stack from deep in the infrastructure up to the data, application, and client layers
  • Speed – Experience with small teams that move fast
  • Impact – You achieve maximum results with minimal direction
  • Ownership and accountability – You own the things that you build
  • Drive – When you see a need, you fill a need. You can step in where you see a need and push us all forward
