The Employee Services Technology (ES Tech) is growing rapidly and is looking for a talented Software Development Manager to lead creating new solutions that our customers need to be successful. You will lead driving the expansion of our workflow orchestration services that enables natural interactive self-service experiences. We are looking for candidates who want to invent the future for employee engagement at Amazon scale.

As the Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for setting the product vision in partnership with product and technical teams. You will work across projects with multiple teams, as well as help with establishing your team’s processes such as QA, coding standards and deployment, testing efforts, and feature development, sustaining multiple parallel projects. A successful Software Development Manager should be highly autonomous with strong problem-solving skills. As a part of this role, you will:

  • Foster career growth and a strong, inclusive, team culture.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to establish a 3-year product vision, scope and deliver features.
  • Interface with our external customers to understand requirements, set priorities and communicate direction and progress.
  • Own all operational metrics and support for your team’s software.
  • Manage the agile development process and methodology to deliver value to customers.
  • Help develop long-term development and business technology strategies.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 7+ years of experience working directly within engineering teams
  • Experience partnering with product OR program management teams
  • 3+ years of people management experience, managing engineers
  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline
  • 6+ years of experience developing software
  • 3+ years of experience managing people
  • Experience building and operating large scale, distributed systems
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with peers and non-technical stakeholders
  • Passion for people management, mentorship and developing engineers’ careers
  • Computer Science fundamentals experience in object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms
  • Proficiency in programming language (e.g. Java, Python, Ruby, C++, JavaScript, TypeScript, SQL)
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers
  • Experience with building high-performance, highly-available and scalable systems.
  • Sharp analytical abilities and proven design skills, with bias to roll-up sleeves to get things done
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • Ability to take a project from scoping requirements through actual launch of the project
