Job summary

Amazon is looking for a motivated individual with strong analytical skills and technology experience to join our Sales & Operations Planning team (S&OP), Placement & Optimization.

In this position, the successful candidate will be responsible for identifying opportunities and implementing initiatives to improve inventory Placement and Strategy, and order fulfillment to our North America customers. This role will directly influence Amazon’s inventory placement enabling 1 day Shipping to Amazon’s customers and improve inventory availability to ship faster, closer and cheaper to our customers. As a member of the North America S&OP team, they will play an integral part in Amazon.com ‘s inventory management by successfully partnering with various operations, transportation, IT, retail, and finance teams to support new business initiatives.

This role will influence the direction of the business by leveraging our data to deliver insights that drive decisions and actions pertaining to inventory placement, effective cube utilization, and optimizing fulfillment speed and outbound costs. The role will involve translating broad business problems into specific analytical projects, conducting deep quantitative analyses, and communicating results effectively. We see a high potential for influence and growth in this role as we transform our data into actionable insights to continue to fuel the growth of this business. The role will help the organization identify, evaluate, and evangelize new techniques and tools to continue to improve our ability to deliver value to Amazon’s customers.

The complexity of research and skills for this role is well beyond basic data entry and research. It involves complex analysis and diving deep into key network design challenges and driving decisions to influence business strategy.

The following provides some detail of the job duties and responsibilities.

  • Drive business strategy for how and where we place inventory to optimize to ship closer, faster and cheaper to our customers
  • Use MS Excel to build models and optimize for tradeoffs across speed, availability, hiring, transportation, inventory cube etc.
  • Use analytical and statistical rigor to solve complex problems and drive business decisions.
  • Manipulate/mine data from database tables (ex. Redshift, MySQL) using SQL.
  • Develop analytical tools: deep-dive tools, UIs, metrics, and dashboards
  • Perform deep-dives and root cause analysis to answer business questions

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in Supply Chain, Transportation or Engineering or equivalent
  • 1+ years of experience as a project/program manager
  • 1+ 2 years of experience analyzing cost/benefit of proposed projects
  • Supply Chain Management Experience
  • 1+ year of experience defining SQL queries and data extraction using SQL
  • 1+ year of advanced Microsoft Excel skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA, MS or MA (Engineering, Mathematics, Supply Chain or Industrial Engineering or Equivalent)
  • 4+ years of experience delivering mission critical business and technology solutions
  • Experienced in verbal and written communication and data presentation skills, including an ability to effectively communicate with both business and technical team
