Job summary
Transportation Procurement at Amazon Europe is all about creating and adding value through great category management, leadership, and supplier relationship management. Our team looks after suppliers across a full range of transportation sub-categories – including postal services, express deliveries and value added delivery services.
The Head of Transportation Procurement will join our European Transportation Procurement leadership team to manage our transportation carriers in a portfolio of European countries to deliver high quality, speed and innovation on behalf of Amazon customers. This role will partner across several organizations and functions within Amazon.

ROLE SCOPE
This role has responsibility to define and implement the transportation procurement strategy for several countries in collaboration with a variety of stakeholders.
You will have responsibility for contract negotiations and subsequent supplier relationship management for relevant national postal operators and/or other local express carriers. Given the scope, you will be interacting on CEO and Executive Board level of your business partners/suppliers.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
• Lead commercial relationships with suppliers, with a principal objective of achieving the lowest total cost of ownership that meets the business’ goals supported by a culture of continuous improvement with cost & performance benchmarks in use

• Establish country and carrier sourcing strategies, lead cross-functional strategic negotiation teams, negotiate with suppliers, and execute contracts

• Drive supplier relationship management activities to improve performance and add value for Amazon customers

• A core member of the transportation procurement leadership team with responsibility to supervise development and roll-out of best practices

• Prepare carrier specific contracts / agreements

• Establish structured and lean contract update / renewal process and ensure appropriate contract management discipline

• Develop an aligned strategy including initiatives to establish new and innovative services, drive performance and speed improvements, and secure capacity for growth

• Engage stakeholders to ensure the supply base meets Amazon’s business needs in all areas and is prepared for future requirements

• Establish carrier performance management, define evaluations and classifications, and build long-term strategic partnerships with high performing carriers

• Identify and implement significant bottom-line cost savings

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s, Master’s degree or MBA
• Experience leading end-to-end strategic planning and sourcing processes
• Knowledge and experience in advanced procurement tools including benchmarking, clean-sheet costing, negotiation design and game planning, supplier performance management, scorecards, contracting
• Extensive experience in a strategic sourcing / negotiation or equivalent role

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Additional languages are a plus
• An understanding of engineering, IT and services
• Influencing and negotiation skills including at executive level
• Strong numerical and analytical aptitude
• Contract knowledge
• Executive level supplier management and engagement
• International experience
