DESCRIPTION
Job summary
AWS Professional Services teams help customers achieve transformational business results thru novel cloud-based products and architectures. We strive to do that by creating an inclusive, cooperative culture that balances customer and employee obsession – we want our employees to be as successful as our customers.
Key job responsibilities
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is looking for Customer Delivery Architects (CDA) who are experienced and motivated technologists who possess a unique balance of technical depth and strong interpersonal skills. You will partner with customers, AWS Sales and several other AWS teams to craft highly scalable, flexible and resilient cloud architectures that address customer business problems and accelerate the adoption of AWS services.
As trusted customer advocate, you will help organizations understand and implement advanced cloud-based solutions, and help them migrate and modernize workloads in the cloud. As a core member of the customer facing team, you will drive revenue growth across a specific customer segment and have an opportunity to shape and execute a strategy, to build knowledge and broad use of AWS. You will interact, communicate, partner and strategize with other teams within AWS such as account teams, services teams and at times engage in executive conversations.
The Customer Delivery Architect (CDA) is a role within the Professional Services umbrella, and is principally oriented around a qualify-deliver-manage model. The CDA is responsible for partnering with Professional Services leaders to dive deep into customers business challenges, to collaboratively propose and pre-qualify a particular set of outcomes that would result in a formal Professional Services engagement.
This is not a pure consultant role, nor is it a pure selling role. You will have a unique hybrid of platform expertise and hands-on building, coupled with cross-industry business acumen, including a heavy dose of passion for continued knowledge acquisition and growth, obsession for customers, and their success using that will align well with the desired outcomes to be produced.
A day in the life
As a Customer Delivery Architect, you will have three primary areas of focus:
• Engagement planning and delivery. Our CDAs identify, plan, sell, and deliver Professional Service projects and engagements with our customers. As a CDA, you’ll work with customers to understand their problems, and then figure out how we can use Amazon Web Services to best address them. You’ll be primarily responsible for putting together the detailed architecture, schedule, and budget for how we help them get there. You don’t have to do it all yourself (you’ll have lots of help from within AWS), but you get to own the effort. And once you put together a great plan and get agreement with the customer to go forward, you’ll be part of that delivery process so having hands-on experience leading and implementing technical projects and teams is important.
• Technology enablement: A CDA is a vital technical resource that helps drive architecture and technical strategies to meet customer goals most effectively. We look for CDAs that love tech and love to learn tech. You don’t have to be an AWS expert when you join, but you must want to become one quickly, and we’ll help you get there with an on-boarding and training program customized to prepare you for the role. We want you to succeed! We look for you to demonstrate your love of technology by showing depth and excellence in at least one technical area such as infrastructure, migrations, networking, databases, analytics, app development, etc., as well as having a broad technical background. We’re not as concerned with the specific area of expertise, just that you’ve shown you can become a sage on critical technology. Being comfortable with general cloud concepts and technologies is key.
• Strong communication and influence. Our CDAs are some of our most prominent technical voices. CDAs help create novel technical visions, and evangelize with customers on both strategic business and technical levels. One morning you may be thinking big with a CIO on strategic business problems and objectives, and then diving deep with technical teams in the afternoon to flush out detailed architectures. We look for you to have proven communication skills that can influence all kinds of audiences.
