System Development Engineer, SCAR

Job summary
The Global Specialty Fulfillment (GSF) team is seeking a System Development Engineer to support GSF’s vision in management by exception (MBE). MBE is the future vision for operations through centralization and will set the standards for Amazon operations. It will enable operations at scale as the business continues to expand.

Key job responsibilities
You will be a System Development Engineer that works with the central MBE Tech team and other tech teams. You will be developing MBE “signals” through consumption of upstream data sources and defining rules to trigger exception alerts for follow-up actions. This role provides exposure to various fulfillment systems in Amazon as you will be researching and developing different scenarios of exceptions. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to and help shape the development of MBE platform. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to develop automation tools for internal analytical teams as we evolve the MBE vision.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• BS degree in Computer Science and 3+ years of industry experience developing web-based tools or a MS degree with 1 year experience or 2 years’ related Amazon experience.
• Proficiency in a front-end language (Javascript, CSS, HTML, etc.).
• Proficiency in a general purpose, modern back-end language (Ruby, Rails, Python, Java, etc.).
• Knowledge of database systems and SQL.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Proficiency in SQL.
• Proficiency in Java.
• Experience with Linux/Unix.
• Knowledge of modern version control systems such as Git.
