As Senior Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading multiple teams through rapidly evolving complex demands and own the product roadmap, design, development, testing, deployment and operations of multiple services. As a manager or managers, you will hire and mentor software engineers, principals and development managers, complete hands-on technical work and provide leadership on complex technical, business and operational problems. You will manage and be responsible for delivering some of our most strategic technology initiatives. As a multi-discipline leader, the buck will stop with you. You will design, develop and operate new, highly scalable software systems that support Amazon’s largest business and have a significant impact on Amazon’s bottom-line and competitive position.
A successful candidate will bring deep technical and software expertise, strong business acumen and judgment, ability to define visionary, ground breaking products, ability to hire and lead a team, desire to have an industry wide impact and ability to work within a fast moving environment in a large company to rapidly deliver services that have a broad business impact.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 10+ years of relevant engineering experience
- 5+ years of experience, managing engineers and managers
- Experience in partnering with product and program management teams
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related engineering field
- 7+ years of experience building and leading technology teams that design and deliver large distributed systems.
- 5+ years of hands-on development experience in C/C++/Java or similar programming languages
- 5+ years of experience in building/operating distributed/scalable systems in multi-threaded, high-volume transaction applications, asynchronous architectures, in a 24/7 environment.
- 4+ years of experience as a manager of managers while leading multiple engineering teams
- Proficiency in system-level design, and experience with web services and service oriented architectures; Candidates must think at scale
- Ability to manage multiple competing priorities simultaneously, and to influence organizations of both technical and non-technical members.
- Exceptional and effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Proven ability to hire world class talent and foster an environment of innovation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- MBA or advanced degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
- Multidisciplinary experience overseeing software development, program/project management and QA
- Experience operating business-critical systems requiring high availability, high scaling, low latency
- Experience with developing software for managing large scale Transportation and Logistics Operations and Operations Research Science
- Exhibits excellent judgment
