Our team is part of a larger Experience Design and Analytics (XA) team that provides design leadership and excellence across all product lines at Autodesk. Key disciplines include experience design, visual design, research, content strategy, and program management. Together, we support Autodesk’s growing design community, and share a common goal of being customer-centric, with connected experiences across our products.

Position Overview

The Principal Experience Designer at Autodesk is an innovative futurist, an accountable product owner, a creative thinker, a supportive mentor, a self-motivated team player, and a skilled SCRUM partner. Our Principal Experience Designers use creative problem-solving skills to continually challenge the team to think beyond the expected, and ship high-quality experiences our customers will love. They’re experienced leaders with expertise in facilitating conversations to solve complex problems, with both a creative and strategic mindset. The XA Product Analytics Team is a centralized Analytics team working closely with product line development teams across the company to define, implement and evolve Autodesk’s Product Analytics best practices. We help those teams with all their internal and customer facing Analytics needs by way of instrumentation, experimentation, reporting, analysis, in-product analytics, machine learning and development of data solutions. We are looking for technically savvy Principal Experience Designer with a passion for the power of data and how that impacts customer experience. We are looking for team members who are eager to help us bring data driven thinking in day-to-day product development practices.

Responsibilities

  • Leading experience design strategy by evaluating the current competitive landscape, analyzing future trends in related fields, and identifying the intersection of business needs, customer needs, and technical opportunities
  • Working with stakeholders to communicate strategic vision and articulate next steps to achieve the vision efficiently while mitigating risk
  • Constructing compelling artifacts (wireframes, conceptual diagrams, task flows, storyboards, etc.) that outline present conditions and proposed solutions to gain strategic alignment and encourage innovation across the organization
  • Leading collaborative sessions with customers and development partners to explore new design concepts, validate existing designs, and make iterative improvements
  • Participating in the continuous improvement of customer experience tools and processes, and scalable experience design standards
  • Assisting in customer research activities during the planning, strategy development, and early design of solutions
  • Partnering with development teams and business leaders to drive successful implementation of great experiences in our software and services
  • Leading design-thinking exercises to break through organizational silos and collaboratively solve complex design challenges

Minimum Qualifications

  • 8+ years of professional design experience
  • Experience in developing data or analytics-based solutions
  • Ability to visualize and prototype intended solutions at various levels of fidelity, from high-level wireframes or mock-ups to conceptual presentations to highly technical documents and diagrams
  • Ability to present designs to a wide range of audiences, including software development, quality assurance, learning content development, marketing, and sales
  • Up-to-date expertise in human-centered design best practices
  • Experience conducting customer interviews and familiarity with customer research methods
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to distill complex ideas to their essence

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in interaction design, new media design, or related field; MS/PhD preferred
  • Experience working with manufacturing processes and engineering
  • Experience designing resilient, cloud-based experiences
  • Software development background
  • Visual or graphic design background
  • Experience with Agile software design methods
  • Experience with Autodesk products
  • An impressive professional design portfolio
