Job Description

Seeking an efficient accounting professional to join our small team. The Utah Labor Commission needs a knowledgeable team player to fill the Financial Analyst III position for the Agency.

In this position you will report to the Director of Administrative Services and be responsible for reconciling bank statements and receivables for the Commission, and the accounting functions for the Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division.

**Telework statement. This is a hybrid position only available to State of Utah residents. After the two-week in office training period, you will work in the office Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday, and telework (if you choose) Tuesday and Friday.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
As a Financial Analyst III, your duties may include, but not be limited to the following: :

  • Managing accounting or budget activities and providing fiscal information.
  • Meeting, presenting, and consulting with Directors and Managers on financial matters.
  • Administering Federal funded Divisions.
  • Researching and reviewing financial records, schedules, reports, and/or problem areas.
  • Developing and/or interpreting fiscal statements and reports.
  • Reconciling financial statements and reports.
  • Reviewing fiscal operations to ensure integrity, accuracy and control of data.
  • Analyzing, summarizing and/or reviewing data; reporting findings, interpreting results and/or making recommendations.
  • Designing, enhancing, or implementing systems and/or subsystems that reflect the changing needs of the agency.
  • Working closely with Federal grant partners to ensure compliance and reporting requirements.
  • Ensuring compliance with applicable federal and/or state laws, regulations, and/or agency rules, standards and guidelines, etc.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • A strong attention to detail and the willingness to learn and adapt to changes.
  • The ability to work independently with little supervision.
  • The ability to work collaboratively.
  • Excellent organization skills.
  • The ability to meet deadlines.

PREFERENCES
Preferences may be given to candidates:

  • With a Bachelor’s degree or higher in accounting.
  • Currently working with the State of Utah and have experience using the FINET accounting system.
  • With three or more years of professional experience in an accounting, finance, or related role.
  • With professional experience developing/administer budgets and monitoring grants.

Typical Qualifications

Ability to develop, administer, and manage budgets with various funding sources.

Proficient in Excel, Work, Adobe Acrobat, AFIN or FINET financial systems.

Analysis, organization, and communications.

Understanding of the procurement process with the State.

Understanding or ability to learn State’s financial and fiscal policy.

Ability to find, gather, develop, analyze, and present financial information.

Ability to interpret policies, procedures, rules and regulations.

Job Classification: Financial Analyst III (#14216). May underfill as Financial Analyst II (#14214).

Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.

Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
