About New to Nature

New to Nature is an exciting programme of paid work placements in nature-focused roles for 18-25-year olds. This is one of 70 roles that will be created across the UK to encourage young and diverse talent into the Natural Environment sector.

We’re particularly interested in receiving applications from young people who are from ethnically diverse backgrounds, who are living with a disability or are from low-income households.

You’ll get paid a good wage from a placement that helps the environment, learn loads of skills to boost your CV and get access to a Youth Employment Coach to help you plan your future career. There’ll also be opportunities to learn about potential careers in the natural environment, and (should you wish to) connect with the other young people working in New to Nature roles across the country.

This is a unique opportunity to try something new, and to take a first step on a career path where you can make a real difference. The natural environment needs you!

We hope you will join us on this exciting journey!

About us

Here at Your Park Bristol and Bath, we are very excited about a new member of the team joining to help us ensure that everyone enjoys the benefits of parks. We are a small charity, passionate about making Bristol and Bath’s parks key spaces for social change. We see the transformative effect spending time with others and connecting to nature in parks can have on people’s daily lives. We want everyone to have these experiences.

The placement

This new placement will be essential in the first year of our park accessibility project. In 2021, we commissioned research to understand the experiences of unpaid carers and disabled people when trying to spend time in Bristol and Bath’s parks. The report found that participants were passionate about spending time in parks for their wellbeing, but they had to overcome many demoralising barriers and many trips to the park failed.

We use our relationship with Bristol City Council and Bath and North East Somerset Council, as well as a broad range of disabled people’s and carers organisations, to action the recommendations in the report to improve accessibility of Bristol and Bath’s parks.

This role will provide support from the very beginning of this exciting new project. You will help us take the first steps to make our parks easier to access, helping improve the health and wellbeing of thousands of disabled people and unpaid carers in Bristol and Bath.
