Senior Account Manager – Creative, Strategic Communications Agency

SENIOR ACCOUNT MANAGER

As an SAM, you are the trusted expert on your teams and you are acknowledged for your skills and experience – by your clients, colleagues and industry peers. You will already be an expert in managing accounts and clients, and have started to develop the counsel you offer clients that you developed as an AM. You will need limited guidance in delivering work and solutions – both internally in managing teams, as well as externally to clients. In addition, as an SAM, you are now refining and perfecting your counsel to different clients, as well as building your team leadership skills and managing the career development of junior colleagues. You will learn to manage your clients’ expectations and protecting your team members. You will also be capable of developing new business proposals with guidance from managers.

CORE SKILLS

  • Ability to propose a strategic solution to a client challenge
  • Develops insights-led strategies, creative platforms, and creative strategic and tactical programmes that demonstrates ability to apply PR techniques beyond media relations
  • Maintains an in-depth interest and knowledge of current affairs, looking for opportunities to position clients where appropriate
  • Demonstrates ability to write persuasively and creatively – both in client materials and new business proposals
  • Builds and maintains key relationships with media/opinion leaders and other relevant third- parties
  • Leads the team in relationship-building initiatives across various media sectors
  • Builds high-level knowledge of clients’ sectors
  • Monitors and investigates ‘market intelligence’ and apply to client programmes where appropriate
  • Demonstrates excellent communication and presentation skills

o E.G. able to express ideas and articulate concepts/recommendations in client or team meetings

CLIENT SERVICE

  • Develops a consulting/advisory capability with clients wherever possible and thereby positions the agency as a strategic business partner
  • Plans and participates in client review meetings with team
  • Demonstrates sharp business and PR acumen to quickly determine short- and long-term priorities for the team, ensuring that all client needs are met – within the profitability target of each team
  • Adapts personal style/approach to clients and teams

NEW BUSINESS

  • Owns and writes new business proposals in full, with guidance and supervision from senior team
  • Seeks and develops opportunities for organic growth of existing businesses
  • Demonstrates advanced presentation and influencing skills
  • Holds in-depth knowledge of competitive landscape
  • Demonstrates high-level analytical and research skills

AGENCY & TEAM

  • Demonstrates self-starter approach
  • Demonstrates innovation and creativity
  • Effectively manages own time and that of junior colleagues
  • Supports the company culture, and seeks new and smarter ways of doing things
  • Manages the career and professional development of junior colleagues – either through account team management or line management
  • Contributes to, and participates in, personal development activities for junior colleagues

o E.G. coaching, workshop development, etc.

  • Conducts appraisals for junior colleagues
  • Actively looks to maintain and build positive working relationships – within the team as well as with the wider office/network
  • Is a supportive, inspiring and motivational team player and leader
