Introduction

The (CAA) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of at Bradley International Airport in Windsor Locks, Connecticut. This position will be responsible for supervising crews of Bradley International Airport Maintenance employees in the maintenance and betterment of all airport facilities and property. This position plays a key role in the planning and implementation of weather-related operational plans during the winter season.

PURPOSE OF JOB CLASS (NATURE OF WORK)

At the Connecticut Airport Authority, this class is accountable for supervising airport maintenance employees in the maintenance and betterment of all airport facilities and property.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Schedules, assigns, oversees and reviews the work of staff; provides staff training and assistance; conducts performance evaluations; determines priorities and plans crew work; establishes and maintains crew procedures; develops or makes recommendations on the development of policies and standards; coordinates the work of the crew on maintenance, special maintenance and capital outlay work in accordance with FAA and TSA rules and regulations; allocates personnel and equipment, determines and reports on materials required; coordinates all airfield maintenance operations with airport flight operations; arranges through the Airport Authority Manager for the furnishing of, or the release of rented equipment; during winter storms advises, directs and coordinates work as directed by the airport operations staff; arranges for shifting of equipment where there are breakdowns; arranges for required repairs to equipment; acts as liaison with other operating units, agencies and outside officials regarding unit policies and procedures; prepares reports and correspondence; performs related duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Considerable knowledge of relevant agency policies and procedures; considerable knowledge of relevant State and Federal laws, statutes and regulations; considerable knowledge of approved methods of maintaining and improving runways, roads and related drainage structures including snow and ice control and removal; knowledge of materials and equipment used in airfield and road maintenance and construction; basic knowledge of first aid; considerable interpersonal skills; considerable oral and written communications skills; ability to lay out, supervise and inspect airfield maintenance work; ability to utilize computer software; supervisory ability.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – GENERAL EXPERIENCE

Six (6) years of experience in airport maintenance or experience in the construction, landscaping, commercial driving, snow plowing, maintenance and repair of roadsides, roadways, bridges or airports, in work involving the operation and care of mechanical equipment or work in one of the recognized maintenance trades.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS – SPECIAL EXPERIENCE

Three (3) years of the General Experience must have been in a supervisory or lead capacity.

Notes:

For State Employees, this is interpreted at the level of Airport Maintenance Crew Leader or a combination of experience as an Airport Maintenance Crew Leader and Transportation Maintainer 3.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

In addition to the minimum qualifications, the preferred candidate will have at least 3 years experience in snow removal operations at Bradley International Airport.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Incumbents in this class may be required by the appointing authority to possess and retain appropriate current licenses, permits and/or certifications.

CHARACTER REQUIREMENTS

At State Airports: In addition to the checking of references and of facts stated in the application, a thorough background investigation of each candidate may be made before persons are certified for appointment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

1. Incumbents in this class must have adequate physical strength, stamina, physical agility and visual and auditory acuity, and must maintain such physical fitness as to be able to perform the duties.

2. A physical examination may be required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Incumbents in this class may be exposed to extremes of weather conditions, to lifting of heavy weights, to highly dangerous road and traffic conditions, to exposure to heights when working on bridges, to poison ivy, insect bites and allergy irritants during summer months, and to loud and potentially dangerous machinery.
