This is an on-call position which will work no more than 39 hours per week and is not eligible for benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field at least two days a week and telecommute remotely at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.

The Denver International Airport Culture and Strategy division is currently seeking a Continuous Improvement Intern to join the team. This is a unique, time-limited opportunity for a detail-oriented individual with a desire to learn about and support long-lasting, system-wide improvement at DEN. In support of DEN’s , this position will help to drive innovation engagement as we prepare to increase capacity to 100-million passengers in the next 8-10 years.

As part of the DEN Chief of Staff portfolio, the Culture & Strategy Division is responsible for leading DEN’s efforts in four key areas impacting the entire organization: DEN Strategic Plan, Equity & Inclusion, Continuous Improvement, and Wellness. The Continuous Improvement Intern will report to the Senior Manager of Continuous Improvement.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to contribute to DEN’s success through the following job responsibilities:

As an intern, in addition to providing support to assist with driving change at DEN, you are also eligible to expand your professional knowledge through various learning and other professional development opportunities

Build strong trustworthy working relationships with employees at all levels of the organization and a wide range of stakeholders and customers

Incorporate Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion principles into process improvement efforts to ensure resulting work is inclusive and recognizes the value of all stakeholders and perspectives

Assist with efforts to encourage and increase employee engagement in improving our processes, products, and services while engaging employees in the Innovate DEN program

Support Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives utilizing the DEN Continuous Improvement framework and perform other related duties as assigned or requested, including special projects

Seek and evaluate continuous improvement information, materials, and methods to match specific organizational needs as outlined by management

Assist instructors and facilitators who provide training workshops in innovation and improvement methods, tools, and techniques

Enter data and information into data entry programs and online systems to support analysis of processes, products, and services

Create and circulate communications on your own improvement initiative, demonstrating the ability to communicate well verbally and in writing on a variety of platforms and settings, including providing a summary presentation at the conclusion of the internship regarding accomplishments and the overall internship experience

Assist with the planning of events associated with innovation and improvement initiatives, and being responsible for logistics, equipment, menus/caterers, and presenters

About You

We are looking for candidates with some or all of the following skills and/or experience:

Ability to work between Monday through Friday, at approximately 24 to 40 hours per week

Use a computer with access to Wi-Fi to accomplish everyday work duties

Ability to work in an active, collaborative, team-oriented and hybrid working environment

Any college student or recent graduate (up to 3 calendar years) enrolled in an accredited community college, college or university seeking an Associates, Bachelors, Masters or Ph.D. degree

Education requirement: Current enrollment in an accredited college program leading to a certificate, licensure, associates, bachelor’s, or higher degree in, or a recent graduate (completed specified program within 1 year of completion)

Experience Requirement: None

Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted

License/Certifications: By position, may require a valid Driver’s License at the time of application

FBI Background Check: FBI criminal background check is required for all positions at Denver International Airport (DEN). Employees are also required to report any felony convictions and/or moving violations to maintain this clearance and be eligible for continued employment. By position, a pre-employment physical/drug test may be required.

Snow / Emergency Duties: Denver International Airport is a 24/7/365 team operation. If weather conditions warrant or an emergency crisis occurs, all DEN employees can be required to work extended hours and/or shifts.
