Job summary
Would you like to be part of a public policy team focused on increasing adoption of the utility cloud computing model throughout the Europe, Middle East and Africa? Do you have the experience in public policy and with government necessary to help further advance the public policy agenda of Amazon Web Services (AWS)*, a leading cloud platform provider?

AWS is the leading provider of cloud computing services, providing IT infrastructure offerings such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services and more. We are looking for a talented, innovative, and motivated public policy professional to help navigate digital policy and regulatory issues in the UK. The successful candidate will proactively build relationships with key policymakers, IT decision makers and executives in government and other relevant organizations and help prioritize international, national, and regional government public policy issues faced by AWS.

Working within the AWS EMEA Public Policy team, the successful candidate:
• Drive the development and execution of government affairs advocacy objectives and public policy priorities for Amazon Web Services (AWS) relevant to digital economy policy issues in the UK;
• Work collaboratively and transparently with policy-makers and regulators to ensure alignment between core business priorities, public policy goals and “go to market” strategies;
• Identify and communicate potential opportunities and threats, develop enhancement or mitigation strategies and policy positions;
• Manage and coordinate external advocacy efforts, outreach programs and key initiatives in concert with AWS business objectives, working closely alongside EMEA Public Policy colleagues;
• Drive high-level engagement between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including policy makers, regulators, industry associations, and international government decision makers to promote and advocate the company’s public policy policies;
• Leverage appropriate corporate membership opportunities in industry associations and policy organizations on behalf of AWS, and ensure appropriate use of outside consultants.

The successful candidate must be inquisitive, passionate about the possibilities of technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. The role is based in London but will require some international travel when public health guidelines allow.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a relevant discipline (Political Science, Public Policy, etc…)
• Significant years of experience with government affairs and/or commensurate corporate, legislative, or government
• Strong knowledge of, and background in, advocacy and public policy development as it relates to new technologies
• Fluent in English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• An advanced degree is preferred
• Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills
• Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships and networks with others
• Demonstrated strong judgment/decision-making skills, and political acumen
• Ability to influence, negotiate with, and persuade others
• Demonstrated ability to effectively and comfortably interact at highest corporate and government levels
• Ability to maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with strongest professional reputation in the industry
• Self-starter with proven track record of successfully working with a wide array of functional groups across an organization and cultures
