Big Data Analytics and Databases Systems Development Manager

We are the DevOps team responsible for the Big Data Analytics and Database products for specialized regions. Our Amazon Web Services teams are innovating new ways of building massively scalable distributed systems and delivering the next generation of cloud computing with AWS offerings like Managed Blockchain, QLDB, DynamoDB, RedShift, and ElastiCache.

A successful candidate will be a hands-on manager with an established background in developing and operating platforms and services, developing and hiring extraordinary talent, have strong technical ability, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a dynamic fast paced environment.

Your day-to-day responsibilities:

  • Build a best-in-class engineering team that delivers excellent results
  • Design and develop state-of-the-art approaches to solving complex and ambiguous problems
  • Cultivate engineering and operational excellence through metrics and continuous learning
  • Mentor and grow others to take on increasingly higher responsibilities

This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

Arlington, VA: This role will sit in our new headquarters in Northern Virginia, where Amazon will invest $2.5 billion dollars, occupy 4 million square feet of energy efficient office space, and create at least 25,000 new full-time jobs. BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Engineering, other related fields, or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years of professional software development or systems engineering experience
  • 1+ years of experience managing software or systems engineering teams
  • 2+ years of experience working with engineering teams to deliver software requiring coordination between multiple teams in disperse functional groups
  • This position requires that the candidate selected be a U.S. citizen and obtain and maintain an active TS/SCI security clearance with polygraph.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Success delivering products/services in a high-growth environment, exhibiting strong ability to identify and solve ambiguous customer-focused problems
  • Ability to take raw product requirements and create software architectures and designs to bring them to life.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to work successfully with teams across the organization
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills; ability to use hard data and metrics to back up assumptions and perceptions
  • Experience with Analytics or Database technologies
  • High attention to detail with proven ability to juggle multiple, conflicting priorities simultaneously and make things happen in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Proven skills designing and developing simple solutions to complex problems
  • Good understanding of platforms and technologies with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design
  • You have a track record of delivering technical programs, projects, and products in a highly technical multi-team environment
  • Excellent written, spoken, and listening communication skills

Denver: The pay range for this position in Colorado is $116,400 – $160,000/yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
