What you will do for Siemens Smart Infrastructure:
We are looking for an IT Solutions Architect I with broad experience designing, estimating, deploying, and maintaining IT products and systems.
- The IT Solutions Architect I will support the Regional Solutions and Services, Region Americas business unit within the global Siemens Smart Infrastructure division and will work directly with both corporate stakeholders and field personnel from Siemens’ branches in the U.S. and Canada
- The IT Solutions Architect I will be responsible for supporting the field sales organization in designing and estimating IT solutions and services
- The IT Solutions Architect I will be responsible for supporting the field operations organization in engineering, deploying, and maintaining IT solutions and services
- The IT Solutions Architect I should have a broad understanding across a range of IT disciplines and be accomplished at taking sets of requirements (systems, software, architectural, etc.) and designing combinations of IT solutions to meet those requirements
- The IT Solutions Architect I will be designing, implementing, and maintaining IT solutions primarily in support of products and technologies related to facility/building control, optimization, and management systems (OT systems)
- The IT Solutions Architect I will contribute to internal initiatives to improve the IT processes, tools, and resources available to the Siemens organization
- The IT Solutions Architect I will report to the Head of IT and Cybersecurity and will take direction from the IT Solutions & Services team lead
Responsibilities:
- Support the field sales organization and branches throughout the U.S. and Canada to design and estimate IT solutions and services in support of a range of Siemens-provided OT solutions composed of both Siemens and third-party products and systems
- Support the field operations organization and branches to engineer, deploy, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain IT solutions and services
- Collaborate with field sales representatives to understand sales opportunities and the scope of the proposed customer solution – design IT networks, systems, and infrastructure to support the proposed scope of work while meeting all customer and product requirements
- Collaborate with field sales representatives to develop proposal documents – including, but not limited to: high-level physical/logical network topologies, bills of material, rack/cabinet diagrams, high-level integration diagrams, and data flow diagrams
- Collaborate with field sales representatives to support customer calls, meetings, and presentations
- Collaborate with field operations representatives to develop detailed design/engineering documents — including, but not limited to: IP and segmentation/subnetting layouts, detailed physical/logical network layouts and configuration, network equipment selection and configuration, protocol/API integrations, structured cabling layouts, high-availability virtualized infrastructure, and server/workstation equipment selection and configuration
- Collaborate with field operations representatives to support troubleshooting and problem resolution activities in Siemens’ customer environments
- Provide mentorship, escalation support, and guidance to field employees
- Support the IT Solutions and Services team in developing IT standards to be followed by the organization – activities may include, but are not limited to: lab testing and validation, contributing to standards definitions and reference designs, developing templates and scripts, participating in lab infrastructure build-outs, researching and summarizing industry best practices, and writing documentation
- Support the IT Solutions and Services team during initiatives to improve the IT maturity of the organization – activities may include, but are not limited to: providing recommendations for IT process improvement, developing process flow documentation, and testing tooling
- Support the IT Solutions and Services team in managing existing IT partner and supplier relationships and evaluating offerings – activities may include, but are not limited to: supporting partner calls and meetings, evaluating partner product offerings and providing feedback, lab validation of products, and co-development and solution design
- Support the IT Solutions and Services team in performing customer solution validation testing in lab and/or on-site customer environments
- Actively maintain and expand knowledge of IT trends, best practices, standards, and equipment
- Attend and actively engage at conferences, events, and educational activities
- Work with supervisor to develop active education/training plan and complete training and certifications
- Represent the Siemens organization professionally during interactions with internal stakeholders, partners, vendors, and customers
- Drive IT and technology adoption and maturity improvement across the organization by incorporating education, explanation, and collaboration in every interaction
Knowledge/Skills, Education and Experience:
- Proven work experience in positions which require IT solutions and services design, estimating, engineering, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance
- Proven work experience integrating disparate IT systems into a single cohesive solution that meets stated objectives and performance requirements
- Proven work experience reading IT product documentation and understanding functionality, uses, and limitations, even without direct experience with that specific product
- Proven work experience in process and tooling improvement and documentation
- Proven work experience collaborating with others across teams and organizational groups with a focus on working well with individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds, and with varying levels of technical proficiency
- Proven work experience estimating the cost of complex IT solutions based on high-level designs
- Proven work experience reading software/system documentation and determining minimum design and performance requirements
- Familiarity with accurately summarizing critical high-level features and take-aways of complex technical solutions and describing them to non-technical audiences and stakeholders
- Familiarity with preparing presentation materials and presenting in front of public audiences
- Familiarity with a broad range of IT technologies — including, but not limited to: network switching, network firewalls, network routers, fiber and copper cabling types, virtualization, Windows Server roles and capabilities, Microsoft Active Directory domains and capabilities, and server/workstation hardware and operating systems
- Familiarity designing solutions to meet hardware, software, and performance requirements – including, but not limited to: calculating performance loads, estimating power requirements, planning connectivity and port densities, and planning physical mounting space
- Familiarity with common IT architectural and design best practices
- Familiarity with common IT and industry standards
- Willingness to learn new skills and technologies and ability to apply past experiences to new situations to quickly understand and work with unfamiliar technologies
- Willingness and ability to attend IT and industry-related training and educational events
- Willingness and ability to attain IT and industry-related technical and/or process certifications
- Advanced verbal and written English language communication skills, including proficiency in technical writing and documentation
- Advanced ability working with Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Visio, and PowerPoint
- High school diploma, state-recognized GED, or state-recognized high school proficiency exam
- Travel: up to 20% travel required in the U.S. and Canada

Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- Familiarity with OT and considerations related to designing combined OT/IT solutions
- Familiarity with facilities, buildings, and the construction cycle – including familiarity with construction specification divisions
- Knowledge of operational technology such as industrial control systems, facility-related control systems, and network-connected facility systems
- Familiarity with industrial networking topologies and equipment
- Familiarity with IT assessment methodologies and/or gap analyses against common industry standards
- Existing IT-related certifications, such as CompTIA Network+, Cisco CCNA, or similar
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 hosted products, such as SharePoint Online, PowerAutomate, PowerBI, and PowerApps
- Degree in IT-related field
